Cosmological cosmic strings.

چکیده
We investigate the effect of an infinite cosmic string on a cosmological background. We find that the metric is approximately a scaled version of the empty space string metric, i.e. conical in nature. We use our results to place bounds on the amount of cylindrical gravitational radiation currently emitted by such a string. We then analyse explicitly the gravitational radiation equations and show that even initially large disturbances are rapidly damped as the expansion proceeds. The implications for the gravitational radiation background and the limitations of the quadrupole formula are discussed. 0 Oporrtod by Universities Research A8SOChtiOn Inc. under contract with the United States Department of Energy https://ntrs.nasa.gov/search.jsp?R=19890007154 2017-09-13T00:07:26+00:00Z

متن کاملBulk viscous string cosmological models in Saez – Ballester theory of gravitation
Spatially homogeneous Bianchi type-II, VIII and IX anisotropic, as well as isotropic cosmological models can be obtained in a scalar tensor theory of gravitation proposed by Saez and Ballester (1986) when the source for energy momentum tensor is a bulk viscous fluid containing one-dimensional cosmic strings. All the models obtained and presented here are expanding, non-rotating and accelerating...
متن کاملCosmic Strings: Lovely Objects!
Cosmis strings are the most promising among the cosmological defects. They also constitute earliest possible observable strings, therefore prove vital for string theorists. Here I review different kinds of cosmological defects, then focus on the cosmic strings. I give a short theoretical derivation first and then discuss experimental efforts to detect them.
متن کاملCosmic Strings
Cosmic strings, a hot subject in the 1980’s and early 1990’s, lost its appeal when it was found that it leads to inconsistencies in the power spectrum of the measured cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropies. However, topological defects in general, and cosmic strings in particular, are deeply rooted in the framework of grand unified theories. Indeed, it was shown that cosmic string...
متن کاملEffect of a positive cosmological constant on cosmic strings
Abstract We study cosmic Nielsen-Olesen strings in space-times with a positive cosmological constant. For the free cosmic string in a cylindrically symmetric space-time, we calculate the contribution of the cosmological constant to the angle deficit, and to the bending of null geodesics. For a cosmic string in a Schwarzschild-de Sitter space-time, we use Kruskal patches around the inner and out...
متن کاملCosmic strings confront COBE
We investigate large-angle anisotropies in the cosmic microwave radiation background which are induced by cosmic strings. We numerically evolve a string network from a redshift Z=100 to the present day and we use this data to generate a full-sky temperature map using sophisticated Green's function methods. Based on a limited number of realizations, we have compared the results of our simulation...
